2010 AMA Pro Superbike Championship schedule announced

No Heartland Park Topeka or Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca MotoGP weekend on new roadracing schedule

AMA Pro Racing officials announced the 2010 race schedule for the AMA Pro Superbike Championship, with a nine-race listing (with “negotiations ongoing for a 10th race”) that is notable for the lack of AMA races at the Red Bull USGP at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Also missing is Heartland Park in Topeka, Kansas, but the very sparse spectator turnout at this year’s event probably made that cancellation decision an easy one.

The announcement said that “the two premier classes” will be featured, but there were no specifics on those classes, which are presumably the American Superbike and Daytona SportBike categories from this year. SPEED channel will air the Daytona 200 live on Friday night, March 5, with the rest of the races broadcast on same weekend coverage; the “two premier classes” will have flag-to-flag race coverage, “with highlights of the other classes competing during the race weekends...shown during the broadcasts.” What the "other classes" will be isn’t known, although there is the definite implication that the Moto-GT endurance series will no longer be a part of AMA Pro racing, as there is a statement that reads “the Daytona 200 will be the only endurance race on the 2010 schedule.”

The Daytona weekend will be the only single-race meet of the schedule. All of the remaining events will be doubleheader weekends that will host dual 50-mile races on Saturday and Sunday.
